Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles” Takes No. 1 On Billboard Hot 100

Rae Sremmurd‘s “Black Beatles” featuring Gucci Mane dethroned The Chainsmoker’s “Closer” featuring Halsey after holding down the number one spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 list. This marks the first Hot 100 leader for both Rae Sremmurd, Gucci Mane and producer Mike WiLL Made-It. The American hip-hop duo recently released their second album SremmLife 2 earlier in 2016, a follow-up to their debut album SremmLife, featuring their singles “Look Alive and “Black Beatles.”

Rae Sremmurd consists of brothers Swae Lee (Khalif Brown) and Slim Jimmy (Aaquil Brown). They came up with the name “Rae Sremmurd” is comes from the duo’s home label, EarDrummers, which is Mike WiLL’s songwriting and production alias.

If you’ve been on the internet, then you know Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles” has been going viral as the unofficial soundtrack for the #MannequinChallenge. From planking, the Harlem Shake, and flipping water bottles, the mannequin challenge is the next internet trend that everybody is jumping on which may be the main reason the song reached the top of the charts. From Destiny’s Child (including Beyonce) to Alesso getting the entire crowd at India’s EDC involved, everybody has been getting in on it. Sir Paul McCartney even paid homage to “Black Beatles” in a Facebook post “Love those Black Beatles #MannequinChallenge” along with a video of his own.

Last night the Pink Print rapper Nick Minaj dropped her own remix of the Rae Sremmurd track. You can listen to the Nicki Minaj’s remix on SoundCloud and see the music video for the original below:
