Singer/Songwriter Kylie Odetta has released the new video for her single Undertow! The beautiful, cinematic video is for the title track off the new EP from this Greenville, SC-based pop artist (with a bit of jazz, soul). This is Odetta’s second video following the release of You Don’t Love Me which debuted in May. Odetta is a full-time indie artist and pianist who keeps a busy schedule on the road and in the studio. She discussed the inspiration for her first video and her creative process in our exclusive profile we did back in June. Undertow has an emotional “live music” feel with elements of jazz, R&B, and pop to create a dreamy sound throughout the EP.
The inspiration for Undertow and the new video is “Love, the strongest current of all, (which) drives every moment, every breath, and every spark of life.” Odetta says. “This song was written based on a personal experience that I had with a relationship that was constantly pulling me back in and then pushing me away. We all have moments in life where we are swept up in our emotions, caught in the riptide of our thoughts, treading back and forth between the “undertow” that is our head and our heart. To symbolize the tragic and epic way experiencing such deep emotions can feel we decided to do an epic and somewhat tragic thing by bringing an upright piano into the ocean and then filming a music video in 35mph winds on Folly Beach in South Carolina. I hope you enjoy this performance music video. More stories to come!” (note: no pianos were harmed in the making of this video, it was just a shell)
