Singer-Songwriter Kison has released her newest single Hendrix! Her latest track follows her previous single release Bad Night in Heaven, which was given the ASCAP Desmond Child Anthem award, leading to her performance at the ASCAP Awards Foundation at Lincoln Center in New York City. This Pop/Soul/R&B/Classical singer was inspired to write the song after watching a documentary about Jimi Hendrix which featured his legendary performance at Woodstock. “(It was) incredible was seeing him in front of a sea of people, and in the middle of playing Red House, a string on his guitar broke, and nobody even noticed because he went on to shred the rest of the song in true Hendrix fashion!” she explains. “A few days later, producer Scorz sent me some music to write to and I was listening to it while washing the dishes. I happen to have a hand drawn sketch of Jimi Hendrix in my kitchen, so it kind of felt like I couldn’t get away from him that week. In my personal life, I was going through a break up (and) felt like I was the only one trying to make a clean break. I applied the line ‘I broke all our strings, you still play like you’re Hendrix’ to a relationship and what it might be like to run into that person. I stood at my kitchen sink for a couple hours that night getting the structure down, and then Scorz and I went to work on it. The rest is history, so they say.”
Kison (aka Kimberly Swanson) has come a long way from her small-town roots in northern Minnesota, to making her Los Angeles performing debut at the renowned Greek Theatre, opening for Lauryn Hill. She has worked with some of the industry’s top producers, including Grammy award winners Rahki (Kendrick Lamar, Eminem), 88-Keys (Kanye West, Jay-Z, Frank Ocean) and Symbolyc One (Beyonce, Kanye West, Jay-Z). Kison (pronounced KEE-sin) bucked her assumed genre of country, to form her own unique sound that’s best described as Teena Marie meets Adele, with a touch of classical. In 2011, Kison joined Minneapolis production company Castlehouse Worldwide, where she released her sophomore album, Part Hero, Part Woman in 2012 featuring guest artist Toki Wright, with production from the innovative King Karnov. She also graced the WorldArts Stage in 2016, where she performed Real, Red Laser, and Bad Night in Heaven. Listen to Hendrix and download it on all streaming platforms today!
