Indie/Electro-Pop artist Disco Shrine has released her latest single Up In The Air! The new song features an infectious chorus, bright synths, and a driving electronic beat. Jessica Delijani is the creative force behind Disco Shrine, creating music with a contrast between high-energy beats and sensual melodies. This Los Angeles-based artist is also an in-demand DJ who has toured extensively throughout the U.S. Up In The Air is the first track in a series of planned releases, and narrates the struggle her parents faced when immigrating to America from Iran and serves as her own anthem for the current situation in the States. “This song is about my parents immigrating to America from Iran after escaping the Iranian revolution in the 70’s” she explains. “Up In The Air paints a picture of them literally up in the air on their plane ride over to America, leaving the past behind and looking towards their new future. It’s symbolic of their whole lives suddenly being up in the air, and not knowing what to expect. It’s moreso in my mother’s perspective and the strength she had to leave her whole life behind to have a better life for her children”.
Born in the San Fernando Valley, Delijani is a first generation Persian-American who grew up listening to her family hosting traditional Persian jam sessions. Wanting to join the party, she taught herself guitar and banjo at the age of 16 and started writing/performing folk music. After a few years of experimenting with “bedroom pop” at home, Jessica made her L.A. debut as Disco Shrine in 2015, with the release of her first pop EP, Soft Fur. She quickly established herself as a fixture at clubs all over L.A., and soon became an official touring Lights and Music Collective DJ, performing at parties like Dance Yourself Clean, Candi Pop, and Beyonce Vs Rihanna. She is also a veteran event producer, helping to throw various dance parties and festivals in L.A. and San Francisco. With her love of community and message of empowerment, she gives listeners an outlet to be carefree, accepted, and liberated through dance music.
