Alt/Electro-Pop group Yes You Are has released the video for their latest track HGX! If it sounds familiar, it’s because you probably heard it’s premiere on a Pepsi MAX Super Bowl XXXXXI commercial, and its subsequent heavy rotation on global playlists. The song exploded onto film and TV, being featured in the movie Bad Moms, FX’s Tyrant, MTV’s Scream, and played on the Billboard Music Awards, The Oscars and The Bachelor finales. Consisting of Kianna Alarid (lead vocals), Jared White (rhythm guitar/vocals), Jacob Temeyer (lead guitar/keyboards), Joseph Wilner (drums), and Willie Jordan (bass), this Kansas City-based group has already received honors like “Best Band on the Rise” and “The Best of Kansas City” Awards. Yes You Are is currently finishing their debut LP with producers Greg Collins (U2, No Doubt, KISS, Eels) and David Spreng (Bob Dylan, Alice Cooper, Lucinda Williams), while playing gigs throughout the Midwest.
Lead singer Alarid got her start in the critically-acclaimed indie band Tilly and the Wall, touring in the 00s with bands like She and Him, Bright Eyes, Rilo Kiley, Of Montreal and CSS on global tours, and playing major festivals like Coachella, Japan’s Summersonic, Iceland Airwaves, Reading, Leeds, Scotland’s T In The Park and Australia’s Splendor In The Grass as well as performing on Late Night with David Letterman and Sesame Street. Shortly after forming in 2014, Yes You Are’s new tracks caught the eye of Tyler Glenn of Neon Trees who immediately asked the band to support them on their US summer tour. Simply put, “we play black pop,” says Alarid, describing their sound as power pop, with sing-along hooks, mainstream-friendly riffs and synth-covered dance rhythms that will continue to keep their tracks familiar to the world.
