East of Eli (aka Nathan West) has released “Nowhere”, the single from his new EP “Lost Transmission”, which dropped on Valentine’s Day. This is the second EP from the indie-alt-pop Vancouver native, and marks the singing debut of West’s wife, acclaimed actress Chyler Leigh (Supergirl, Grey’s Anatomy) who provides angelic harmonies throughout the track.
West says that “Nowhere” is his “Valentine’s Day gift” and love letter to Chyler, and that “she is my inspiration, my muse & biggest fan.” The song captures the challenges faced by being in love, but not getting to see each other as often as you wish you could. “Nowhere is a song about how true love knows no boundaries” says West. “I invited Chyler to be featured on the track to create a haunting vocal presence that would represent the idea that when you are alone and you think about your lover, they are thinking of you. Her performance is very honest and heartfelt which is exactly the tone and feel I wanted to capture within the story and production.” West and Leigh had discussed performing together in the past, but had largely worked together in the acting world prior to recording the new track. “Nowhere” beautifully fuses cinematic folk, pop melodies and modern electronic sound into a stunning arrangement with catchy melodies, soaring guitars and deep synths. Thematically and sonically, the new single is his strongest work to date, displaying a poignant reflection of the past and present.
The title track, “Lost Transmission”, was written for West’s son Noah who is diagnosed with ADHD & Autism. The song is an anthem intended to capture his son’s undivided attention to see the truth and beauty of who his son is becoming in spite of his own day-to-day struggles. The new album captures the evolution of that journey, with songs dedicated to all three of his children that “connect with humanity through the music.”
East of Eli has received critical acclaim with American Songwriter, describing West as an “artist on the rise”. EOE has performed at top venues all around SoCal including the House of Blues and Soho House, and will be announcing dates in Los Angeles, Vancouver and Nashville in the near future.
